Default Making a short movie with only music!

Hey guys i need your help with my idea that i had for a few weeks now, but i am having trouble with it!

I was thinking it would be creative if i made a film with serveral different type of music relating to what is going on in the film. Witch that is causing my problem! I dont know if i should try to match it to the atmospher (alot easier) or try to match it to the main character (maybe try to mimic most of the words with music but that will be really hard and maybe confusing to the viewers). There isnt really a script yet, witch may also explain why i am having such difficulty.

Also I am a beginner and just for some odd reason I just had a new craze for trying to make a film. Also what are some good free video editing software for PC that is compatible with Vista? I tried Windows Movie Maker but realize the format they use was uncompatible with the most simplest things like Youtube because the data that is save is like a text file.

Also any tips would be great and much appreciated!

Thanks for the help guys!

If I were you I would go with the mood in making it...
Its a good idea, you should go with it. Start drawing up some ideas and get a script together.. thats your first step.
Dont know much about editing on a PC... sorry cant help you there.
Good luck!

Hey.
Nice Idea..! You can make a shortfilm using any HD Handicam or DV or Mini DV cam or even with your Mobile phone.
Editing can be done using Adobe After effects, Premiere or even with Windows Movie maler.
Come on man.. Do it.

You're best off making a film that goes with the mood of the song as you dont want the atmosphere the vision creates and the atmosphere the audio creates conflicting as it can create a confusing film and just wont work.

I find it best to listen too music and as soon as you hear it, whatever you imagine first from the tone of the song let it run wild in your head and create a whole film too go with that song. This helps to refine what sort of things you match up to certain songs which will overall help you make a better film.

There are no good, free, editing suites. Thats the truth of it. If you want good editing software you're going to have to come too terms with the fact that you'll be spending money. Perhaps the cheapest there is (that is also used professionally) is Sony Vegas Platinum Pro 9. This is a good editing suite and you can find it for under $200 in shops and under $150 on Ebay.

Ebay is awesome for amateur filmmakers.

Good luck with the film hope I've been of use.
